This Apprenticeship in People Management is designed for individuals who want to develop a strong foundation in people management and take their career to the next level.

You will also gain an understanding of how HR (Human Resources) and L&D (Learning and Development) work together to support an organisation’s goals.

The course focuses on practical learning, using real-life examples to develop your behaviours and skills development. You will gain a clear understanding of how to apply your knowledge to the workplace, building the necessary expertise to succeed as a people manager. This qualification is ideal for those who are just starting their career in people management, as well as those who are already working in a people practice role and want to advance their careers. This qualification is equivalent to the second year of a university degree in the UK and is open to employees currently working in HR roles or carrying out HR duties at any level. 

Learners will be enrolled in the Higher Apprenticeship in HRM with Coleg Sir Gar and will undertake the qualification through the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø as part of the Apprenticeship programme.

Apprenticeships are a life long learning pathway with no age limit, so as long you are employed, not in full-time education and over 18 you can apply.

Degree apprenticeship starts at Level 4, however, relevant previous experience/qualifications will be taken into account. You will study part-time around your work commitments, and the programme will be for 2-4 years.

The programme is Government funded and you will be entitled to a wage, statutory holidays and paid time off to study.

Apprentices must be in relevant employment, but a degree apprenticeship is suitable for all industry sectors and business sizes.

Apprentices must be eligible to work in the UK and receive a minimum salary of at least £16,770 per annum.

What you will learn

At ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, we believe in fostering a supportive and practical learning environment, where you will develop both the theoretical knowledge and practical skills needed for a successful career in people management. Our teaching philosophy encourages critical thinking, hands-on experience, and continuous professional development to ensure that you are ready to make a real impact in your organisation.

Learners will attend workshops over 18 months, to complete the Diploma. On successful completion of the Diploma, candidates will become Associate members of the CIPD. Associate membership is recognised as a professional level of membership and successful candidates are entitled to use the designation AssocCIPD after their name.

Depending on experience and previous qualifications, learners may also be required to complete additional work, as part of the apprenticeship essential skills requirements — this will be explained to you as part of the application process.

During the course you will build your understanding of people management with modules like Organisational Performance and Culture in Practice and Evidence-Based Practice. You’ll develop key skills through Professional Behaviours and Valuing People, and learn to manage Employment Relationships, Talent, and Reward for Performance. Modules like Specialist Employment Law will equip you with practical knowledge to navigate legal frameworks and support employee wellbeing, preparing you to contribute to organisational value.

  • Experience or L3 qualification and currently employed.

  • Assessment for the CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management is employer-driven and aimed at real scenarios that learners may encounter in their future career. The CIPD will set assignments for all core units. For the other units, the University will devise their own assessments, based on guidance provided by the CIPD. These may include case studies, slide shows, port-folios and other methods of assessment. There will be no exams.

    This qualification is not graded. Learners will receive either a Pass or Fail. All assessment criteria must be met in order to achieve a Pass.

  • This qualification is funded for eligible students. To be considered for the funding, students must apply to Coleg Sir Gar and complete the apprenticeship application process. Full details are available on request.

    Students can opt to enrol on the course without the funding – the current fee is £1700 (2024-2025).

    Additional costs include mandatory CIPD student membership and optional purchase of textbooks. Student Membership of the CIPD costs £109 per year, plus a £40 joining fee (2024-2025).

  • Successful achievement of the CIPD Level 5 Associate Diploma in People Management will allow progression onto the level 7 Postgraduate Diploma/MA.

    The qualification will enable students to apply for positions requiring level 5 CIPD status.
