Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies
Our Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies programmes explore the fundamental concepts which define and have defined the human experience within the areas of anthropology, theology, philosophy, religion studies, and ethics. Choosing to study at Lampeter you will be able to explore the stories of old at a place where higher learning began in Wales.
Religion and Theology have been deeply embedded in the University’s history since 1822 and whilst rooted in an area which is rich in religious heritage. Our programmes also provide insights into the religious diversity of the 21st-century world, reflecting the significance of religion’s role in societies.
Alongside this our Anthropology and Philosophy programmes explore the richness of human existence and thought through a diverse range of topics which encourage the development of core skills highly prized by employers.
As you engage with the different ideas and concepts of these programmes you will gain a critical awareness of human society and be able to clearly and logically articulate what it means to be human.
Our programmes provide a fascinating array of modules, with joint honours options, offering you a flexible and exciting way to study through our innovative immersive teaching system. Allowing you to design a programme of study that suits you as an individual, complimenting your interests, academic strengths, and future aspirations.

Our innovative and immersive teaching approach consists of block teaching, small groups seminars and one-to-one tutorials. It allows you to gain a full understanding of the concepts you engage with.
Block teaching, studying one module at time, allows you to fully immerse yourself in the current topic whilst working collaboratively with your peers from other disciplines across humanities. This unique approach helps you to explore ideas and concept from multiple perspectives.

As a student with us you will have access to a wide range of teaching and learning spaces as well as several libraries, study spaces and general campus amenities.
Lampeter Library provides access to a range of flexible learning spaces to support all our students and is also home to the Roderic Bowen Library & Archives, housing the Special Collections of the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, the University’s oldest printed books, manuscripts and archives and is one of the principal resources for academic research in Wales.
Also based on our Lampeter campus is the Alister Hardy Religious Experience Research Centre, housing an archive with over 6,000 accounts of first-hand experiences of people from across the world who had a spiritual or religious experience.
