DipHE in Health and Social Care for Children and Young People is designed to give you the skills and knowledge to do just that. This course is a recognised qualification, opening up exciting career paths in health, care, and education. 

We provide a programme of progressive studies relevant to careers in the primary functions of care within the health, care and education of children and young people that enhance your ability to exercise investigative, reflective analytical and reasoning powers in context. You will learn about the key ideas and practices that help children and young people grow and thrive. You’ll study important theories about their development and wellbeing, and discover how to use this knowledge in real-life situations to make a positive impact.

You will also explore current issues affecting individuals, organisations, and communities, both locally and globally. This will help you understand the role of Public Health in tackling these challenges and improving the health and wellbeing of different populations.

What you will learn

Our approach to learning and teaching is based on a blend of theory and practice, ensuring you gain both the knowledge and skills needed to excel in the health, care, and education of children and young people. We focus on developing critical thinking, reflective practice, and professional competence.

In the first year, you will explore the foundations of child development and wellbeing. You will learn about the key principles of health and social care, including child-centred approaches and effective problem-solving techniques. This year focuses on Equality, inclusion and digital equity as well as management, organisational behaviour and digital change.

  • Please note that every applicant is considered individually. We may also make offers based solely upon your life or work experience.

    For applicants wishing to study the Diploma HE (two year) qualification, an offer will be made based upon your educational and employment experience.

    For those wishing to study the BSc (three years) you will need to have obtained a minimum of 88 UCAS points.

  • Assessments include: essays, exams, reports, presentations, reflective blogs and professional portfolios.

    You will be asked to utilise information technology communication and organisational skills for your assignments.

  • You are encouraged to continue or enter employment in the health, care or support sectors in order to enhance your studies. We recommend that you pay for the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) update option if you do not already have one in place. This however is not compulsory for the purposes of the programme.

  • You may be eligible for funding to help support your study. To find out about scholarships, bursaries and other funding opportunities that are available, please visit our Bursaries and Scholarships section.

  • We have a very strong employment support and work experience system within the Health Portfolio.

    We link and work closely with public, private and third sector organisations and groups to provide opportunities for both paid and unpaid work for students.

    We particularly welcome applicants already working with children and/or young people in some capacity.

    Please note that this course does not take the place of the CCLD Level 3 qualification. If your job role or career requires this qualification we recommend you undertake it separately.
