What you will learn

This course blends theory, policy, and practice in primary education, drawing on pedagogy, psychology, and sociology. We emphasise contemporary issues and enable students to engage in small-scale research, fostering a deep understanding of the link between theory and practice.

The programme will provide you with the understanding and skills that are relevant for working with children of a primary school age, considering:

  • Where and how do children learn?
  • What are the barriers to learning that children experience and how may they be overcome?
  • What are the key factors that have an impact on primary education in Wales today?
  • How do adults work most effectively with children in an educational setting?

They will need a C grade in GCSE Science.

The course welcomes students from non-standard entry backgrounds and we consider experience, relevant life skills and academic potential when assessing applicants.

During the first semester, all students undertake a study skills module, which helps prepare them for the requirements of higher education.
