The part-time MA in Computer Games Design is an exciting journey into mastering game worlds, game realms and crafting engaging experiences. 

You’ll be guided by experienced academics, learning the skills needed for a successful game industry career. This course encourages creativity and innovation, helping you build your own conceptual designs and using Unreal Engine Navigation.

You’ll explore key areas like character design, level design, and the latest game design theory and practice, while delving into ludology and interactivity. The course also focuses on creating prototypes and developing your projects within a production-based system, helping you master essential studio roles. As you refine your work, you’ll build a professional showreel to present to future employers.

Throughout, you’ll work on immersive terrains and visionary landscapes, while dealing with the challenges of creating animated creatures in fantastical environments. You will also have access to specialised game modules, designed to deepen your expertise and take your skills to the next level.

Our programme also offers you the opportunity to collaborate with other students and benefit from cross-discipline learning with the Animation and Film MAs, ensuring you gain a wide-ranging and comprehensive understanding of game development. The course is tailored to help you develop a portfolio that showcases your abilities and propels your career in the games industry.

What you will learn

At the heart of our part-time MA in Computer Games Design is a commitment to hands-on learning, industry-facing methods, and the development of impactful, immersive game experiences. You will work with cutting-edge technology, enhancing your creative and technical skills through a blend of individual projects and collaborative teamwork, with continuous feedback and support.

Modules including Advanced Studio Workflow and Techniques and Interactive Experiences Prototyping will develop your ability to create engaging, immersive gameplay and master production management. You’ll explore concept creation and game mechanics, learning the essentials of game design theory while building your portfolio.

You will then further expand your skills in advanced genre production and creating story universes. You will refine your character design and level creation skills, using immersive technologies to prototype and explore interactive experiences. 

A Master’s Project culminates your learning journey with a large-scale game production project.
