ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Academy of Sport Celebrates International Football Honour.
The ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø’s Academy of Sport proudly announces that its Head of Football, Martyn Bowles, will continue his role as Assistant Manager of the Welsh Schools FA U18 International Team for the upcoming season.
As they prepare to launch their 2024 Centenary Shield campaign, the team looks forward to engage in spirited matches against opponents including Scotland, England, Northern Ireland, and the Republic of Ireland.
The Centenary Shield was presented to the Schools’ Association Football International Board (SAFIB) in 1973 by the Scottish F.A. to mark the Association’s centenary year. It is currently contested for by U18 Boys selects representing the Schoolboy Associations of the British Isles countries. With Martyn’s presence in the management team over the past several years, Wales aims to secure a historic third consecutive championship victory.
Martyn said:
“After a successful season here at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø for the football teams, it would be the perfect end to the season for me if Wales can complete the treble with three wins in a row in this competition. It is a huge task though as all teams are highly competitive and it’s a really tough challenge.â€
Lee Tregoning, Head of the Academy of Sport at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø, hailed Martyn’s international coaching role as a significant asset to the institution. He said:
“It is a huge bonus to have an International coach as a member of staff here at the Academy of Sport and this experience will not only improve Martyn personally by gaining exposure to International football but then using this experience when working with our Men’s and Women’s teams going forward. It also puts the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø brand out there within football circles which is only a positive. We wish Martyn and the squad all the best for the competition.â€
