Background

Born in Wrexham, North Wales, Camilla Roberts studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and the National Opera Studio sponsored by Welsh National Opera, with whom she subsequently became an Associate Artist. In 2005 she represented Wales at BBC Cardiff Singer of the World. Other awards include the inaugural Kenneth Loveland Gift, the Harold Rosenthal Award and the WNO Chris Ball Bursary.

Highlights in recent seasons include Donna Elvira Don Giovanni, Santuzza Cavalleria rusticana and First Lady The Magic Flute for Welsh National Opera, and Donna Anna Don Giovanni and Andromache King Priam for English Touring Opera. She has also understudied the title role in Vanessa for Glyndebourne, Meni The Exterminating Angel for The Royal Opera, and Isolde La Vin herbé for Welsh National Opera.

Roles for Welsh National Opera include Elisabetta Maria Stuarda (also at the Royal Opera House, Muscat), Mathilde Guillaume Tell, Fiordiligi Così fan tutte, Donna Anna Don Giovanni, Countess Le nozze di Figaro, ²Ñ¾±³¦²¹Ã«±ô²¹&²Ô²ú²õ±è;Carmen, Diane Iphigenie en Taride, µþ±ô³Ü³¾±ð²Ô³¾Ã¤»å³¦³ó±ð²Ô&²Ô²ú²õ±è;Parsifal, and Laura Iolanta (which she also performed at the BBC Proms). Roles elsewhere include Foreign Princess Rusalka (English Touring Opera); Anna Nabucco (Opera North); Tatyana Eugene Onegin (Opera Holland Park); ²Ñ²¹Å™±ð²Ô°ì²¹&²Ô²ú²õ±è;The Bartered Bride and ²Ñ¾±³¾Ã¬&²Ô²ú²õ±è;La bohème (Mid Wales Opera); and Anna Le Villi and Eglantine Euryanthe (Chelsea Opera Group).

Roles understudied include Elisabetta Maria Stuarda (The Royal Opera); Elsa Lohengrin and Lisa Pique Dame (Welsh National Opera); Giorgetta Il tabarro, Káťa Kabanová and Rusalka (Opera North); and Female Chorus The Rape of Lucretia, Donna Anna and Countess Almaviva (Glyndebourne).

Concert highlights include Beethoven Symphony No 9 (Barbican Hall under David Parry); Rossini Stabat Mater (St Endellion Festival under Richard Hickox); Mendelssohn Elijah (Philharmonic Hall, Liverpool); Verdi Requiem (Orchestra of Scottish Opera); and Strauss Vier letzte lieder with the Brighton Philharmonic. For Raymond Gubbay she has performed at Birmingham Symphony Hall, Bridgewater Hall, and the Royal Albert Hall. She has also performed at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, St John’s Smith Square and St David’s Hall, Cardiff.

Camilla has sung recitals at the Cheltenham International Festival of Music, North Wales International Music Festival, Fishguard Festival and in Milan. Her discography includes Donizetti’s Belisario and Corrado d’Altamura for Opera Rara and Nabucco for Chandos. She has also performed on Friday Night is Music Night for BBC Radio 2.
