Role in the University

Amanda is a SKIP Cymru © trainer for Wales Academy for Health and Physical Literacy (WAHPL) at the ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø (ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø). After completing her Masters in 2017 through the university, in 2018 she began her doctoral research looking at the impact of SKIP Cymru©. Amanda also works on the undergraduate PE and Masters programmes.

Background

Prior to her doctoral studies Amanda worked in Sports Development and Education for over 10 years in Pembrokeshire. Her main roles included teaching physical education at both primary and secondary and supporting schools with development of physical literacy. From 2015 to 2017, Amanda was seconded for one day a week to work as part of the Welsh Government’s Physical Literacy Project for Schools in the region. She is very passionate about her work and believes that all children should be provided with a range of movement experiences from an early age that will allow them to be confident movers in later life. She is also passionate about supporting the key people such as teachers, coaches and parents who can provide these inclusive opportunities.

Amanda’s commitment to physical literacy is evident in her own leisure time as she highly values physical activity. Her main sport since a young age has been football; she retired in 2016 from Swansea City Ladies. She now has more time to enjoy her other hobbies, which include hitting the gym, trail running, cycling, skiing, and anything on the sea.
