Inclusive Education (Full-time) (BA Hons)
The BA Inclusive Education top-up degree is a one-year programme created for those who have completed the Foundation Degree in Inclusive Education. This degree is aimed at individuals already working or volunteering as Teaching Assistants (TAs), Learning Support Assistants (LSAs), or other roles within education and learning environments. The course focuses on linking real-world learning experiences with deeper knowledge of educational theory, policy, and practice.
The programme offers a flexible learning structure, making it manageable for students who work or have other commitments. Students also have the option to submit assignments in Welsh or English, supporting bilingualism and inclusivity.
This BA degree builds on the knowledge and skills from the Foundation Degree, with a focus on the complexities of 21st-century education. Students will enhance their academic writing, communication, and critical thinking skills within a digital learning environment. The course covers current educational practices and explores the purposes and values that shape education today, encouraging students to reflect critically on their roles within the sector.
A strong focus of this programme is linking theory with practical, on-the-job learning. Students will deepen their understanding of the relationship between classroom theory and educational policy while learning to apply these concepts directly in the workplace. This approach prepares students to be adaptable and responsive in a rapidly changing educational landscape.
Aligned with the Welsh Government’s five Professional Standards for Teaching Assistants—Pedagogy, Professional Learning, Innovation, Leadership, and Collaboration—the programme encourages students to actively engage in their own professional growth. This course develops skills that are directly relevant to current educational needs, both in Wales and globally, supporting career progression with potential routes into further studies, such as a PGCE or MA in Education.
Students are encouraged to develop transferable academic skills and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively. By the end of the programme, students will be prepared to make meaningful contributions within the classroom or wider community.
