ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø to host CISCO Conference on January 18
A half-day conference exploring the relationship between The ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø (ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø’s) CISCO Academy and the new Curriculum for Wales, will take place on January 18 at the University’s SA1 Campus in Swansea.
The conference has been organised by the University’s School of Applied Computing and Cisco Networking Academy Support Centre from 9.30am to 2pm. It will explore the new Curriculum for Wales focusing on Computation Progression steps 3, 4 & 5, and the opportunities with Cisco Networking Academy to provide an integrated learning model that is industry aligned.
Speakers will include Semyon Ovsyannikov, Senior Regional Technical Manager at Cisco – EMEAR and Elizabeth Barr, Business Development Manager Cisco Networking Academy UK & Ireland and Vicki Price, Head of Computing at Ysgol Greenhill in Tenby Pembrokeshire.
Semyon is an education and technology expert currently driving and supporting the development of Cisco’s corporate social responsibility program Networking Academy in Europe. He has 15 years of experience working on international ICT education projects
Andrew Smith, a Senior Lecturer in Networking at the Open University will also deliver a talk.
Andrew is a former network manager, working for various organisations in the 1990’s before becoming a further education college lecturer in 1996. Having set up a Cisco Regional Academy at Barnfield College in Luton in 1999, Andrew has worked on a variety of projects including the development of the BTEC suite of qualifications, embedding of vendor qualification into the QCF, and is the author of many textbooks and documentation of the Packet Tracer simulation environment. Andrew is currently a senior lecturer and has worked full time for the Open University since 2008, having been a consultant and associate lecturer since 2003. He now leads the Cisco Academy ASC at the Open University.
Dr Nitheesh Murugan Kaliyamurthy Senior Lecturer & Programme Manager (CertHE - Digital Skills, Engineering, Electronics, Construction) at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø said: “The workshop will help digital skills coordinators, ICT teachers, and head teachers to explore various opportunities to align the curriculum, especially on computing progress steps with the current industry requirements.
“It will also enable ICT Teachers to share their best practices to save time and resources, whilst improving quality and efficiency.â€
