Talented graduating artists awarded prizes
Congratulations to the winners of the Swansea College of Art Summer Shows Awards! Each year, the exhibition presents the culmination of degree work by graduating students. Their final pieces are viewed by staff and professionals on the lookout for standout talent.
The ceremony was held in Dynevor courtyard at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø on the opening night of the show on Friday, May 17, with hundreds gathering to hear the results and a speech from the University’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Elwen Evans, KC.
- The Elysium Sculpture Award: Ewan Coombs and Heidi Lucca-Redcliffe received £1,000 each. The award was presented by Alex Duncan.
- The Hayden John James Prize : Evan Elias (BA Illustration) and Chloe Rees (BA Fine Art) received £1,000 each. The winners were selected by ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Professor of Practice Karen MacKinnon and presented by Professor Sue Williams.
- The Elizabeth Jeffries Award: Sophie Larcombe (Surface Pattern and Textiles) received £250. The award was presented by Programme Manager Georgia McKie.
- ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Innovation and Excellence Awards : Jojo Bishop (Surface Pattern Design), Evan Elias (Illustration), Susan Matthews (MA Contemporary Dialogues and Zheng Jiayi (Graphics) were selected and presented with their awards by Professor Ian Walsh, Provost of ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø’s Swansea and Cardiff campuses.
- The Josef Herman Carolyn Davies Prize : Ewan Coombs was awarded £500. The winner was selected and presented by Jackie Hankins of the Josef Herman Foundation.
- The Rhys Bevan Jones Illustration Prize : Blaine Henderson was awarded £200 by Gwen Beynon.
- The Old Dyvorians Association President Prize : Sophie Wighton, Anastasia Muzyka, Svitlana Ulianych and Oisin Mcdaid each received £300 and were presented with their awards by Professor Ian Walsh.
