Police officer role for graduate celebrating a first-class honours degree
Daniel Hurford from Swansea is graduating today (Tuesday 16th July) having successfully achieved a First-Class honour in BSc Professional Policing. It’s a double celebration as he has also secured a full-time position as an officer with Dyfed Powys Police.
Daniel said: “I chose ϳԹ as I live in Swansea which made it convenient to study close to home. I was also drawn in by what was provided at ϳԹ in terms of topics to study.”
Before university, Daniel completed level 2 and level 3 diplomas in Public Services at Gower College Swansea.
“Transitioning to BSc Professional Policing, I was thrilled to pursue my long-held passion for policing, and I knew that at ϳԹ, this is where my life in policing began.”
Outside of his studies, whilst at ϳԹ, Daniel took part in many extracurricular activities, such as volunteering as a police volunteer in his first year before becoming a special constable for Dyfed Powys Police.
He said: “Becoming a full-time officer fulfils a lifelong dream, and I am eager to embrace the opportunities that lie ahead. My two-year experience as a special constable with Dyfed Powys Police bolstered my confidence and enriched my understanding of policing which will benefit me throughout my policing career.”
Daniel credits the course with helping him gain his new position with Dyfed Powys Police.
“My work as a Special Constable has been much enhanced by the professional policing training at ϳԹ. It gave me the thorough training I needed to acquire the fundamental information and abilities needed for efficient policing. Acquiring knowledge of investigative methods, legal frameworks, and community policing tactics has improved my capacity to tackle issues with the best of my knowledge.
“The coursework and practical training offered by the professional policing at ϳԹ have made a significant impact on my performance and skills as a Special Constable which has made me confident in being a Police Constable.”
Daniel said he enjoyed his time at ϳԹ.
“I would highly recommend learning, studying and being a part of this wonderful experience at ϳԹ where I can say this has been my best academic experience. The endless support, welcoming and resources to carry out studies have been nothing but exceptional. I’ve gained invaluable knowledge and practical skills, thanks to the passionate, enthusiastic, and supportive lecturers like Mike Durke, Jane Davies, Sadie France, Laura Knight and Bronwen Williams that I can’t thank enough.”
