Criminology and Policing graduate’s hopes for a top police career
Kirsty Jones-Higginson from Ammanford is graduating today (Tuesday 16th July ) with a BSc Criminology and Policing Degree.
Kirsty said: “I choose to study at ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø as I heard the student services were known to be one of the best, as well as being really interested in the joint degree in criminology and policing.â€
Employability is central to the values of the university and creating opportunities for students to gain invaluable insight into industry and support for development of core skills needed for the workplace is at its heart.
ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø has been working with South Wales Police since 2010 to provide students with the opportunity to volunteer as a Police Student Volunteer (PSV). This scheme allows students to work alongside the police on several community-based projects such as the Swansea Help Point.
Throughout her studies Kirsty volunteered as a Police Student Volunteer (PSV) and committed to nearly 200 hours volunteering.
Kirsty said : “Volunteering with South Wales Police has allowed me to gain more experience on the front line and be involved in many different activities. In the future I hope to pursue a career in the police and complete the fast track to detective and then just see where it takes me from there. I hope to be able to achieve a lot in this career choice as it’s always something I have been interested in doing.â€
Kirsty said she had enjoyed her time at the University adding: “This degree course has built up my knowledge and understanding on many different aspects of policing as well as looking at the more investigative sides within criminology. I would recommend ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø. The student support received from lectures has been good and staff are friendly.â€
