Cerys Bailey' ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø Experience
My name is Cerys Bailey, I grew up in Cardiff and my mother was originally from Pembrokeshire, so I had the opportunity to visit her side of the family during school holidays. Although I was a little sceptical when choosing Carmarthen as somewhere to go to university, these were some of the best years of my life.

Why did you choose ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø?
After hearing from my careers adviser how much praise there was for the Primary Education course in Carmarthen this had a big influence on my choice. In addition, he explained to me that it would be possible for me to do the entire course through Welsh. This was not something I originally considered but the choice was an easy one because I felt much more confident continuing with my education through Welsh.
What did you enjoy outside your studies?
I enjoyed playing netball and as a result I got to know people outside my course. As a flat, when there are no lectures, we all enjoyed going to the beaches such as Lampeter and Pendine as well as socialising through the Welsh Society. We were lucky enough to go on an unforgettable trip to Dublin with the society during the six-nation tournament.
What do you hope to do when you graduate?
I have been extremely lucky to accept a position as a year 6 teacher in Pembrokeshire so I am really looking forward to that starting in September.
What is your favourite thing about Primary Education with QTS?
All of my work experiences had a huge influence on my practice as a teacher, the opportunity to have a cross-section of different schools really develops your understanding of how each school can be different but have the same aim, which is supporting every individual. I also had the opportunity to carry out research into the welfare of pupils where I conducted interviews and provided questionnaires to staff and pupils. Deriving from this, we were required to write an assignment on our findings deepening our understanding of the field in question. All the lecturers must also be praised in their ongoing efforts to support us and share any advice they have after being teachers.
What is your favourite thing about the Carmarthen Campus?
Living in a flat with my friends who were doing the same course. We all enjoyed each other’s company and so we took every opportunity to socialise. Like all students, finding the motivation to start research and write assignments was sometimes a challenge but living with students from the same course as it meant we could motivate and support each other. I cannot emphasise more how significant it is to establish a support system that includes students from the same course as you.
