What is your favourite thing about distance learning?
As I was a distance learner mainly, only attending for organising weekends, I wasn’t on campus very regularly. I liked it’s location and how it enabled us to travel to a range of locations suitable for engaging us during different modules.
Why did you choose ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø?
I wanted to do a Masters, I wanted to do blended learning part-time and ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø met these needs.
What did you enjoy outside your studies?
As my course was delivered in a blended learning style, I was able to continue my usual life routines whilst visiting campus for the weekend visits. This meant I could continue with my hobbies of reading, nature photography and playing in a brass band. It also meant I could continue with my volunteering with Girlguiding and the West Midlands Ambulance Service. As it was part-time, I continued to work whilst studying.
What do you hope to do when you graduate?
My course helped me to understand Outdoor Education in more ways than I originally thought of it. It enabled me to become more confident with current studies and handling data. I started it whilst I was a primary school teacher and during that time it enable me to be confident as an Outdoor Education Specialist, providing information to other school staff and enhancing the provision in the school. Then I moved into a role as a project manager and consultant supporting colleagues with nature connection and action activities. The course enabled me to talk with confidence and back up what I said with evidence.
What is your favourite thing about a Masters in Outdoor Education ?
My favourite thing was the adventures that were built into it. I was able to push myself through a range of ‘adventure’ challenges which I would normally shy away from. From coasteering to cycling, I was able to push myself out of my comfort zone. I enjoyed that I was able to choose the topic for my dissertation and align it with my interests and work situation. This meant my dissertation research and knowledge gained impacted my work too.

Would you recommend ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø and why?
I would recommend ºÚÁϳԹÏÍø because of the support available from the staff and peers, the opportunities that it offers and the campus location.
